On Thursday, April 14th, at the International Community Lounge (Imadegawa Campus), we held "Spring in wagashi ~ Let's make the clay work of Japanese sweets! ~”.
In this event, we made the clay work of Japanese sweets while enjoying international exchange! Four international students and five local students participated in this event. By simulating actual wagashi making process using resin clay, we were able to understand Japanese wagashi and food sample culture.
Before we make fake sweets, SIED staff gave a presentation about the culture of Japanese wagashi and food samples. Using pictures, we explained about Nerikiri, one of the typical Japanese traditional sweets. The participants also learned that there are seasonal wagashi products besides Nerikiri. Everyone was interested in Japanees unique wagashi cultureand that made all of us happy!
After learning about Japanese culture, we started making fake sweets. In this time, we made three kinds of fake sweets: rabbit, cherry blossom petal, and the flower of cherry blossoms. The participants followed the actual kneading method to create their own original works! During the process of creation, participants taught how to create and chatted with each other! After the event, participants told us "It was a lot of fun!” and "I made some cute fake sweets!”, which made us happy!
Thank you to everyone who participated! The new school year started in April, and this was Imadegawa SIED's first event of the school year. We are happy to had the opportunity to meet the participants in person again !
SIED will continue to hold many events you can interact internationally and make wonderful encounters under COVID-19 infection prevention. We look forward to your participation♪
