Report: "Let’s go to Shokoku-ji Temple!" (presented by SIED)

Updated Dec. 9, 2022
Hello, we're SIED!

We held "Let's go to Shokoku-ji Temple!" on November 14th (Mon.). 6 international students and 3 local students participated in this event. The event included a visit to Shokoku-ji Temple, located right next to Doshisha university Imadegawa campus on the north side. During the special autumn exhibition time, we were able to visit the Dharma Hall, Hojo and Kaizando Hall, which are not normally open to the public.

The participants were divided into three groups and visited Shokoku-ji Temple while having enjoyable conversations with each other. In the Dharma Hall, participants felt a vibration called "Nakiryu", which when you clap your hands under a ceiling picture of a dragon "Banryuzu", sounds as if a dragon is crying, and all participants lined up in a row to feel the inscrutable voice of the dragon. The leaves started to change the color gradually into red and orange, so participants enjoyed the beautiful autumn leaves in Kaisando Hall. We were happy that the international students enjoyed the Japanese autumn too.

After the event, it was impressive to see all the participants enjoying chatting with each other in other groups. One of the participants even collected vermilion seals, so we were all very interested in the vermilion seal book! Some of participants saw vermilion seals for the first time. We were glad to hear that she collected the vermilion seals of Shokoku-ji Temple too. Participants said, "I had fun again this time!" "I became more interested in international exchange". We are very happy to hear that. Thank you to everyone who participated in this event!

SIED will hold many events you can interact internationally and make wonderful encounters under COVID-19 infection prevention. We look forward to your participation♪
