Report: “Let's experience winter in Kyoto at Genko-an Temple and Kinkaku-ji!” (Presented by SIED)
Jan.22,2026 Update
Hello from SIED!
On Saturday, January 10th, SIED held the event "Let's experience winter in Kyoto at Genko-an Temple and Kinkaku-ji!".
We were joined by a total of 9 participants, including 4 international students and 5 local students.
During this event, we visited Genko-an, a temple of the Soto Zen sect, and Kinkaku-ji, a temple of the Rinzai Zen sect.
At Genko-an, we viewed the famous "Window of Enlightenment" and took time for self-reflection. At Kinkaku-ji, participants enjoyed exploring the grounds freely.
Amidst the quiet atmosphere unique to Kyoto in winter, it was a wonderful opportunity to deeply experience Japanese "Zen" culture. During the trip, we held a quiz asking questions such as "Why is Kinkaku-ji gold?" which served as a great opportunity to think about Japanese culture from a new perspective.
We received positive feedback from participants, with comments such as "It was fun" and "I learned a lot."
SIED will continue to plan international exchange events where you can experience and learn about Japanese culture.
