Hello, we are SIED, 

On May 22nd (Fri.), SIED hosted an event, ”Let’s play the Japanese card game Hyakunin-Isshu!” at the International Community Lounge on Imadegawa Campus. 7 international students and 12 local students, 19 students in total, participated in this event.  

In this event, we introduced participants to traditional Japanese poetry and the Hyakunin-Isshu anthology, which have long been cherished in Japan, and held quizzes on seasonal words, allowing everyone to enjoyably learn about Japanese poetry and karuta culture. 

Afterward, participants split into groups to try their hand at two traditional games: Chirashi-dori and Bozu-mekuri. Local students were seen explaining the meanings of the poems to international students, and everyone—regardless of language— got into the spirit of the games, making for a lively event from start to finish ！ 

We hope all participants had a wonderful experience through our event.


We will host many other international exchange events throughout the semester!
