Report: “Let’s try making Chirimen crafts!!” (Presented by SIED)

Hello, this is SIED.
On Wednesday, December 10, we held the SIED event “Let’s try making Chirimen crafts!!” with a total of 18 participants, including 13 international students and 5 local students.
In this event, participants created flower-shaped fabric crafts using chirimen, a traditional textile from Kyoto.
At the beginning, we explained the history and characteristics of chirimen to help participants deepen their understanding of this traditional material.
Although many participants initially struggled with the difficult crafting process, each group worked together through trial and error. By supporting one another and sharing tips, every group was able to complete its own unique flower. In addition, the flower-themed quiz created a lively atmosphere, and conversations naturally expanded to topics such as national flowers and floral traditions in participants’ home countries, providing meaningful opportunities for cultural exchange.
