Report: “Uji Walking Tour: Discovering the Roots of the Japanese Soul” (Presented by SIED)

Hello, we are SIED!
On November 16th, SIED hosted the event “Uji Walking Tour: Discovering the Roots of the Japanese Soul” around Uji Station. A total of five students participated in this event — four international students and one local student!
During this event, we visited Uji Bridge, the Tale of Genji Museum, Tachibana Island, and Byodo-in Phoenix Hall. We discovered “Japan-ness” everywhere in Uji! It was a valuable opportunity to learn about cultural traditions such as The Tale of Genji and Pure Land Buddhism, and to reflect on the unchanging mountains and rivers as well as the ever-evolving townscape. We also took group photos at Uji Bridge and Byodo-in Phoenix Hall.
We were happy to hear participants say that they “had a great time”!
SIED will continue to organize exchange events where you can experience the cultures.
