Hello, we’re SIED!

We held “Let's learn about regional culture! -Okinawa Edition: Making Star Sand-” on April 23rd (Tue.). 13 international students and 6 local students participated in this event.

At this event, we learned about Okinawan culture through quizzes and discussions. During quizzes about the Okinawan dialect and Okinawa's tourist spots, participants were divided into 2 teams at each table and competed in a quiz tournament.

In the latter part of the event, we all made "star sand bottle" one of Okinawa's souvenirs. First, we learned about the legend of the stars on Taketomi Island and the true nature of star sand. During the process of making the star sand, we used not only star sand but also shells and colored sand to create our own personalized star sand. Throughout the event, participants interacted with each other in various languages, not just Japanese, and we could feel the bond between them deepening!

After the event, we received feedback like, "It was so much fun!" and "I want to participate again!"
I'm delighted that this event has become one of the memories of university life. Thank you very much to everyone who participated!
