Report: “Let’s Make Shiratama Dumplings” (Presented by SIED)
Jul.2,2026 Update
Hello! This is SIED.
On Tuesday, June 9, we held a SIED event, “Let’s Make Shiratama Dumplings” at the International Community Lounge on the Kyotanabe Campus. A total of 29 participants joined the event, including 16 international students and 13 local students.
Participants were divided into five groups and experienced making shiratama dango using shiratamako (glutinous rice flour) and tofu. Students from the Rochester Institute of Technology also took part, and Japanese students explained the recipe in English while working together with international students to knead and shape the dough, fostering meaningful international exchange and friendship.
Once the shiratama dango were ready, participants enjoyed them with a variety of toppings such as kinako (roasted soybean flour), sweet red bean paste, and kuromitsu (brown sugar syrup).
Working together in groups naturally encouraged conversation, and comments such as “I’m glad I was able to work with my group members” were heard throughout the event. The event concluded in a warm and friendly atmosphere.
