SIED hosted “Let’s make Temari Balls!” on June 30th (Fri.) at the International Community Lounge on Imadegawa campus. Six students including four international students joined this event.
Temari balls are traditional Japanese toys with more than 1,000 years of history. The participants learned that temari balls started as an amusement for young royal girls and that today, people often give them as gifts for celebratory occasions.
After listening to the trivias about the toy, the participants made their original temari balls with colorful yarns. In a relaxed atmosphere, they helped one another in showing how to embroider, talked about their color choices, and told the others the embroidery culture in their home country. The complete products were all very lovely and the participants told the staff that they wished they could make more of them!
SIED plans to hold various workshop events throughout the year. We look forward to your participation.
