On April 14th (Sat.), SIED hosted “Let’s make Wagashi!” a welcome event for new international students, at Kanshun-do Higashi-mise. 35 students including 30 international students participated in the event and took part in a Wagashi (Japanese confectionery) making workshop.
Participants made three kinds of wagashi under the guidance of a confectionery craftsman. One of those wagashi is called "RAMMAN", and express the cherry blossoms in full bloom. Although some participants were struggled with using the tools that they haven’t seen, everyone enjoyed making wagashi while teaching each other and comparing their progress. After the workshop, they tasted what they made with green tea. Some participants said “I will bring back wagashi when I return to my country!”, and the others said “I would like to learn about its historical things more.”
SIED hosts many interesting events where you can experience not only Japanese cultures but also cultures of different countries. Come join us! We look forward to seeing you all!
