On April 21th, SIED held the event “Kyo-kanoko Shibori Workshop” a welcome event for new international students, at Kyoto Museum of Traditional Crafts FUREAIKAN. 20 students including 12 international students participated in the event.
Kyo-kanoko Shibori has various kinds of methods, and this time, we tried “Itajime shibori”; pressing the clothes between carved boards and make patterns. Thanks to a friendly craftsman, the participants really enjoyed dyeing handkerchiefs in Japanese traditional style, with talking about their handkerchiefs’ color and design.
After the workshop, some of the participants went to the adjoining exhibition hall, and looked around Japanese traditional crafts eagerly.
SIED will host many interesting events. We look forward to seeing you all in our future events!
