“Innovation of traditional arts and crafts” was held under the auspices of A Study Group of Management in Kyoto (ASGMK) and SIED in Imadegawa campus on Saturday, November 11th. 12 ASGMK members and 17 students including 6 international students joined the event. It was the 4th time that SIED held events with A Study Group of Management in Kyoto.
We invited Mr. Matsuoka Kiichi, a craftsman of traditional tie-dyeing, as our guest speaker for this event. He talked about his success in promoting traditional dyeing technique worldwide and the possibility of traditional craft technique utilizing new 3D print techniques. His talk made us think about how traditional arts and crafts change and evolve with time. He produced apparel featured not only in Japan but also abroad. His style is evidently successful- his exhibition at this talk drew large crowds. Participants enjoyed seeing the 3D print equipment demonstrated, and were wowed by Mr. Matsuoka’s unique blending of form and style as his dyeing changed structure to match patterns. Immediately following the event there was a meet-and-greet between Mr. Matsuoka and all the participants.
Thank you very much Mr. Matsuoka, members from A Study Group of Management in Kyoto, and all participants who joined our events!
