On January 10th (Thu), SIED hosted “Classical Japanese Dance Lesson for Beginners” at the International Community Lounge on Imadegawa campus.
In this event, the participants listened to the presentation about “Hyakunin-isshu-mai”, watched the dance performance, and took a mini lesson. “Hyakuninn-isshu-mai” is a new type of classical Japanese dance in which famous Japanese song “Sakura-sakura” and Hyakuninn-isshu (old Japanese poem) are used as the melody and lyric. SIED invited two instructors for this event. At first, Ms. Kansona, a lecturer, introduce what “Hyakuninn-isshu-mai” is, and performed the dance. Secondly, the participants wore easy-to-wear kimono, and the lesson started. Although they struggled in the beginning, they performed admirably by the end and also enjoyed it. Colorful kimono made their dance more beautiful. In the end of the event, Ms. Kansona gave qualifications for the participants who danced perfectly. Through this event, we hope that the students feel closer to classical Japanese dance.
SIED will keep hosting events which you can enjoy Japanese culture. We look forward to seeing you all in our future events!
