Report: “Learn New Orleans” (presented by SIED)

Updated Jun. 28, 2019
On June 19th (Wed), SIED and University of New Orleans (UNO) co-hosted an event, "Learn New Orleans'" at the International Community Lounge on Imadegawa Campus. Many local students and the students from UNO participated in this event.
Ms. Nadia West, Kristin Esponge, and Johari Reynolds from UNO introduced the unique culture of New Orleans located in Louisiana, U.S. They also told us about the campus life in U.S. which is different from Japanese one. During the event, since New Orleans is a historical place where Jazz music was born, we listened to Jazz music by Louis Armstrong. In addition, presenters re-created “Mardi Gras”, which is the biggest festival in the area throwing the beads to listeners. Both presenters and participants seemed to enjoy the event so much!
After the presentation, the participants enjoyed “pralines”, the city's traditional sweets prepared by presenters while interacting with the UNO students. We hope that the participants were able to experience the culture firsthand through the event.
SIED plans to hold many events throughout the year. We look forward to your participation!
