Report: “International Cooking Class ~Kimbap~” (presented by SIED)

Updated Jul. 1, 2019
On June 24th (Mon), SIED hosted “World Kitchen ~Kimbap~”at Amherst Guest House
on Imadegawa Campus. 4 international students and 8 local students joined this event and made “Kimbap”, one of Korean food.
“Kimbap” looks like Japanese sushi roll, but the taste and ingredients are different. In this event, Korean SIED staff gave us a presentation about the difference between sushi roll and Kimbap and when people eat Kimbap in Korea. According to him, people put Kimbap in lunch box or buy it when they don’t have enough time to eat.
After the presentation, participants started making Kimbap. Every student made one roll by themselves. Because Kimbap and sushi roll are similar in the way of making, some Japanese students made Kimbap very well like a professional by using Makisu.
Through this event, we could change our stereotype that Korean food is spicy. Some participants said, “It was yummy!” “I spent fulfilling lunch time.” and so on. We hope that the participants, including those who joined SIED event for the first time, enjoyed the event so much. Thank you for your participation!
SIED offers various kinds of event that you can experience the food culture from all over the world. We look forward to seeing you again!
