2019 UNO-JAPAN: Study at Doshisha University – Imadegawa Campus

Updated Jul. 8, 2019
For 5 weeks starting from May 27th to June 28th, UNO-JAPAN: Study at Doshisha University 2019 was held at Imadegawa Campus. The University of New Orleans (referred as UNO hereafter) is an affiliated university of Doshisha, which is located in New Orleans: the biggest city in Louisiana, is well known for one of the most popular sightseeing resorts in US, and for the birthplace of jazz music.

In 2019, we had 20 students (including from some other universities) who studied about Japanese culture, history, religion, and film by using Doshisha facilities. Not only in the academic aspects, they could also deepen their understandings of Japanese cultures and life by taking the field trips to Kyoto, Osaka, and Nara. Special thanks to Kendo club, Shodo (calligraphy) club at Doshisha University, and Kado (flower arrangement) club at Doshisha Women’s College of Liberal Arts, for cooperating and providing the opportunities to experience the traditional Japanese cultures.

Doshisha students are involved in this program as “Tomodachi Partners” or auditing students. They expanded their views and values through their interaction, and positively supported UNO students’ daily life in Kyoto.

At the Farewell party which was held on the last day of the program, we enjoyed the annual events: photo slideshow made by UNO students, and janken (rock-paper-scissors) game. This year UNO student and Doshisha student exchanged speeches in each other’s language. In a cheerful atmosphere just like New Orleans, the program was closed with lots of smiles.
