Report: Welcome Event for New International Students “Let’s Discover Kanji!” (presented by SIED)

Updated Oct. 31, 2019
SIED hosted “Let’s Discover Kanji!” as a welcome event for new international students on October 20th, a clear autumn day. In this event, we enjoyed Kanji hanko (a rubber stamp) making workshop and the museum exhibition at Japan Kanji Museum & Library. In the workshop, participants made their own hanko by carving erasers. Although they struggled with it at first, they were getting absorbed in the work. After that, we looked around the museum. Especially, the participants were impressed by ancient Kanji stamps and Japanese calligraphy of “Kanji of the year” selected every year in Japan. In the museum, there was a replica of “令和 (Reiwa)” panel used when the press conference of new era name. Some participants enjoyed taking photos with the panel.
Through the event, the participants interact with each other and made new friends. In addition, we hope that this event allowed them to become familiar with Japanese culture and Kanji history. Thank you for your participation.
SIED hold many events where you can learn Japanese culture or interact with local students, so please don't hesitate to join us! Let's enjoy together! We look forward to seeing you soon!
