Report: “Uji Walking Tour -Let’s taste Matcha in the home of Japanese Tea!-” (presented by SIED)

Updated Dec. 20, 2019
On December 8th (Sun), SIED hosted “Uji Walking Tour ~Let’s taste Matcha in the home of Japanese Tea!~” in Uji city. 17 Doshisha students, including international students, participated in this event. This event was held to allow participants to explore the hometown of Japanese tea and its beautiful scenery.
Starting from Keihan Line Uji Station, the participants took a stroll through Ujigami Shrine, one of Kyoto’s World Heritage, and Kotosaka, famous for its autumn leaves during this time of the year. Following that, participants were split into smaller groups and explore the sights around Byodoin Omotesando.
Finally, participants gathered at Takuminoyakata for the main event, Matcha Tasting in the home of Japanese Tea! With the step-by-step instruction from the staff of Takuminoyakata, the participants made their own cup of matcha and enjoyed it with some traditional Japanese sweets. By the end of the event, participants went back with happy memories and bonds made during their short tour of Uji.
SIED hold many events where you can learn more about Japanese culture or interact with local students, so please don't hesitate to join us! Let's enjoy together! We look forward to seeing you soon!
