Updated Jan. 20, 2020
SIED hosted “New Year's Special Lunch Talk” at the International Community Lounge on January 6 (Mon), 8 (Wed) and 10 (Fri). Participants were invited to experience traditional games and toys related to Japanese New Year, such as Daruma-otoshi, Fuku-Warai, and Omikuji (fortune-telling slip).
How was your result of Omikuji drawn at Lunch Talk compared to the one drawn at a shrine? If you get “Daikichi”, you are a lucky person in 2020! Anyway, regardless of the result of Omikuji, we hope that everyone will surely have a good year and new encounters.
Participants also enjoyed tasting "Kohaku mochi", which is famous as a good-luck food in Japan. Some students introduced their home country’s New Year’s culture one another. We hope this event gave you a chance to learn more about the New Year custom in Japan.
We will continue to have a lot of events which you can experience the culture of Japan and other countries. Please feel free to join us!
