Report: “Uji Walking Tour - Matcha ×World Heritage-” (presented by SIED)

Updated Dec. 21, 2020
On December 13th (Sun.), SIED hosted “Uji Walking Tour - Matcha ×World Heritage-“ in Uji city, located in the south part of Kyoto. We divided participants into small groups and took a walk around Ujigami Shrine, which was registered as a World Cultural Heritage site in 1994. After that we visited Byodo-in, which is famous for its phoenix hall. Through looking around a museum and a national treasure, we enjoyed learning about Japanese history and art culture. (Byodo-in was also registered as a World Cultural Heritage site in 1994 as a "Historic Monuments of Ancient Kyoto".)
It was a fun walking event, the participants were taking pictures and having a conversation not only with the group members but also with other members.
After taking a walk for about two hours, we had a matcha experience at "Mitsuboshien-Kanbayashisannyu-Honten". Uji is famous for Japanese tea. While receiving an explanation from the instructor about how to make matcha, we tasted genuine Japanese green tea with some sweets.
In the event, we hope that participants made happy memories and met new friends. Although it was a little bit short tour, it was a good opportunity for international exchange!
