Updated Dec. 28, 2020
On December 21st (Mon.), SIED hosted an event, “Let’s Make SHIMENAWA!” at the International Community Lounge on Imadegawa Campus. “SHIMENAWA” is a Japanese ornament to celebrate New Year’s Day. In the event, participants learned about Japanese New Year’s culture and enjoyed decorating SHIMENAWA while talking together.
First of all, the SIED staff made a presentation about the traditional New Year’s celebration in Japan such as OSECHI (New Year dishes) and SHIMENAWA. It must have been worth listening for not only international students, but local students. After the short lecture, finally it’s time to make SHIMENAWA! Participants enjoyed choosing their favorite decorations from lots of options such as artificial flowers or colorful decorative threads. Some participants said “It was a great time!”, “It was a good opportunity to know Japanese culture!”.
We hope all participants have the wonderful holidays with SHIMENAWA they made!
We will host many intercultural events throughout the year. Don’t miss it!
