Report: “Let’s Play Yutnori!” (presented by SIED)

Updated Nov. 26, 2021
On Thursday, 18th November 2021, SIED hosted “Let’s Play Yunnori!” at the International Community Lounge in Kyotanabe Campus. In this event, participants got to learn more about Korea’s culture through playing the traditional Korean board game “Yunnori”. Yunnori is a board game that is similar to Japanese “Sugoroku” where instead of rolling dices, four sticks are used. Four sticks with 2 faces are thrown and the resulting combination represents the number of steps to move. For this event, the board is enlarged and special spots are added where participants have to complete 1 of 2 mini-games. The mini-games introduced are “Gonki” and “Jegi”, both of which are also Korean traditional games. Gonki is a game that involves throwing and catching marbles, whereas Jegi is a game that involves juggling a toy with your feet. The participants became the game pieces on the enlarged board and raced to be the first team to reach the goal. Everyone had a fun and enjoyable time with also learning about Korean’s culture and a little Korean Language.
Here at SIED, we plan and host enjoyable events all year round, so please join us! We look forward to seeing you at our future events.
